My Love

Klaus J. Gerken

My love’s a silver bird
Sparkles when she’s heard
Never gives me anything
Except her ring to pawn

My love’s a gentle fawn
Runs barefoot on the lawn
Drops a hint that no one gets
And vanishes at dawn

She tells me there’s no hope for
The future or the past
Says we should love the moments
Without remorse or fuss

The sky’s a sea of twilight
My love is in the skies
Sparkles like a diamond
Or a thousand fireflies

She harbours no commitment
To herself and others
Walks away like Venus
In the shadow of a dove.
